5 Questions With... Brian Kuzniar

We continue our "5 Questions With" series, featuring the impressive list of industry leaders on Sage's 2026 Client Advisory Board.

Next up is Brian Kuzniar, Portfolio Manager at Harrison Street.

1. What first got you into the senior care space?

My exposure to senior housing came through a career transition to Harrison Street.  Senior housing is one of our primary investment sectors and has quickly become one of my favorites.  Seeing the compassion of our operating partners and their staff and the happiness in the resident base is rewarding.

2. What do you see as the biggest challenges in the industry today?

The industry is in a very favorable position from a supply and demand outlook.  I see maintaining a consistent high level of care as properties reach capacity as one of the biggest challenges.

3. What’s the biggest leadership lesson you’ve learned and would want to share?

Remain an optimist.  The attitude at the top always trickles down and can inspire people to accomplish things they never thought they could.

4. What do you think the industry needs to do better over the next decade?

The industry will need to continue to adapt to the changing needs of our aging population, modernize processes and procedures to avoid staff burnout, and prepare for the post-boomer generation.

5. What gives you the most optimism about the future of senior care?

There are so many out there with the compassion that it takes to provide care to this generation of aging seniors.  Each person intimately involved in the industry has a story that relates to the care of a loved one.
