Every shift, caregivers in senior living deliver two kinds of care: the scheduled routines in a resident’s care plan, and everything that comes up in between, like an escort to the dining room or a hand getting out of bed. The scheduled care has a home in the EHR. The unplanned care often doesn’t. That leaves caregivers with extra paperwork and leaders with records that undercount the care residents actually received.
Today, Sage announced that Tasking, a Sage product that brings planned and unplanned care into one place, is now available for communities running on August Health. Through this bi-directional integration, scheduled care routines from August Health appear on the Sage phones caregivers carry, alongside alerts for unplanned care needs, and the care they complete flows back to August Health automatically.
When the care plan and the record of care sit in separate systems, the cost extends well beyond lost time. Caregivers spend part of each shift on paperwork, and unplanned care, such as responding to a call light or assisting with a transfer, often goes undocumented altogether, even though it is among the clearest indicators of what a resident needs and how a care team’s time is spent. Those gaps carry real consequences: compliance risk grows, care plans and staffing drift from what residents need, and level-of-care decisions rest on incomplete information, which can mean missed revenue.
Tasking closes those gaps by bringing planned and unplanned care into one workflow. Caregivers view, act, and document in one place, which cuts paperwork, and the care they record flows back to August Health as the system of record and into Sage Insight, so leaders get holistic data on the care being delivered to improve community performance.
"Caregivers deliver planned and unplanned care all day, but only part of it makes it into the record. Tasking brings both into one workflow, so caregivers can see their tasks, document in the moment, and capture the care that used to go unrecorded. And because it all flows back to August Health and into Sage Insight, leaders get a complete picture of the care their teams are delivering. Caregivers no longer have to choose between finishing their documentation and being present for the resident in front of them.”
Scott Hougham, Head of Strategic Partnerships, Sage
With Tasking, caregivers see scheduled routines from August Health on their Sage phone and complete them with ease, and respond to and resolve unplanned care alerts on the same device. All of that care flows back to August Health and Sage Insight, giving leaders a holistic view of the care actually delivered.
Operators who prefer August Health’s point-of-care app, Care Track, can run it alongside Sage on the same device. Caregivers use Sage to respond to and resolve alerts, and Care Track for all other planned and unplanned care.
“Our customers decide how their teams work, and our job is to make the systems they choose work well together,” says Kerry Thurston, Head of Strategy & Partnerships at August Health. “A caregiver’s shift is one continuous job: the scheduled care and the call that interrupts it. The technology should treat it that way, and every part of that work should come back to a complete picture of the resident.”
Operators using Tasking are seeing a 90% documentation compliance rate and a 4.8/5 caregiver satisfaction score, with value across the operator and the care team:
Tasking is the second phase of the Sage and August Health partnership, following Resident Sync earlier this year. Whether teams document scheduled care in Tasking or in August Health’s Care Track, the two companies keep each resident’s day connected. Sage continues to build toward an ecosystem where operators can choose best-in-class tools without giving up connected workflows, and where the signal a resident generates, the care they receive, and the record of that care all move together.
